Are you shorter than most of your friends and don't feel confident enough hanging out with them? Is your girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife taller than you or looks taller going to a party or watching a live event or just a casual dinner/date? If so, you must have had that little (or more) complex in your mind looking shorter as compared to your partner which can destroy your confidence.

Fortunately, it’s not all bad news. Sure, we don’t have any magic growing beans that we can pop in the post to you, but we do have some style tips which can at least make you look a little taller than you really are.
Let's start with MEN
We don’t need to jump into the drawbacks of being short. Whether it’s struggling to get a view of a band when watching a live event, or just feeling dwarfed by everyone at a party – it’s the feeling that no man in the world wants to experience. So, if you're 5'6'' and under and want to flatter your body-length best, here's a style cheat-sheet you've got to keep handy!

1) Tuck in your shirts, whenever possible.

Make this a habit and your height will never bother you. By tucking your shirt into your choice of bottoms, you'll define your waist and your legs will appear longer.
2) Wear clothing that fits
Are we stating the obvious here? Probably, but it’s amazing to see how many men just don’t wear clothes that fits properly.
We’re mainly talking about the “loose fit” here which in short, is just too much of a loose fit. It emphasizes to everyone else just how small you really are and as we’ve already highlighted, this is the exact message you really don’t want to portray.

To be specific, jackets which have baggy armpits is a key offender. If you can afford it, always opt for the tailored approach. It’s made to measure and as such, fits your small frame.
3) All your bottoms should end at the ankle
Gone are the days of your bottoms gathering around sneakers. They need to be cropped and they need to end at the ankle, or an inch above it. If you don't like them cropped, fold them neatly. The ankle is the slimmest part of your leg, so expose it.
4) Be careful of your color palette
In some ways, your color theme should be quite boring. Monochromatic styles have been known to effectively “streamline” your appearance and somehow tricks the eye into thinking your body is longer than it really is.
If you can make all of the garments on your body stick to as few colors as possible, you will have won half of the battle.

5) There’s no harm in cheating

We’re now talking about heeled shoes and the benefits they possess. The key is stay off-the-ground at all times. Hence, a minuscule heel will always do you good! Though they're great shoes to own, footwear styles such as espadrilles, converse shoes are too flat for you. If you're headed to work, heeled oxfords/derby shoes are your best bets!
It's your turn, Ladies
Girls are sucker for fashion, isn't that true? But things get a bit jumbled up in case of the shorter girls. It is a common notion among people that nothing much fashionable would suit them—fashionable dresses, Indian or western, can be carried with élan only by girls with long legs and sleek body! If this is what keeps you from purchasing or trying out fashionable dresses, let’s break this stereotype! This portion chalks all the fashion dos that shorter girls could follow to carry off simply any dress with confidence and style
Here are some examples of celebrities who are short in stature or petite:

Take some style inspiration from the Bollywood diva such as Rani Mukherjee, Alia Bhatt, Genelia and Zarine Khan who are short in real life but are ruling the roost like Queen Bee!

1) Practice good posture
You can benefit by practicing good posture because the correct posture will make the clothing draped around the body better and thus improve your overall silhouette. You will also look taller, leaner and smarter.
2) Wear fitted or semi-fitted clothing
Fitted or semi-fitted clothing make you look taller and slender because fabric clings to your body and create a beautiful up down line. We would prefer a tailored approach. Fitted dress like sheath dress or body-con are perfect as they make you look slimmer and taller.
3) Avoid baggy over-sized clothing

Outfit that drape loosely on your body will drown you because they expand left right and thus take inches off your height.
4) Wear tops that ends at and above the hips
Long tops that cover your hip will make your legs appear shorter. Go for tops that ends at and above the hips instead to appear taller.
5) Wear monochrome color
Wearing one or two shades color clothing that are matching to each other will create a flattering long slender up down line that gives the illusion of height. If your top and bottom has very distinct color for example a light and a dark color, the color effect can cut off your body in half making you look shorter.
6) Wedges and Platforms - Welcome Back!

You might be in love with your pencil heels, but for daily uses, we assure you that there’s nothing better than the trendy wedges and platforms. If pencil heels and conical heels increase the oomph factor, then wedges and platforms, which are so “in” these days, increase the chic factor as well as make you visually much taller than you actually are.
7) Wear your hair long

Although the choice of hairstyle is absolutely one’s own, it is desirable for shorter girls to keep longer hair. This gives a leaner and taller effect to the whole body.

And, if you’re having frizzy hair, make sure you go through some smoothie treatment - frizz not only damages the hair but also gives a wider appearance to your entire body! Well, if you’ve a hair to flaunt, then you could go for curls too!
8) Bring back all those shorts and skirts
Are you afraid of wearing short dresses, skirts and pants because of your height? Well, it’s time you take your height in your stead and go out to win the world! If you think that short dresses are only for those with never-ending legs, then think twice!
